How Do Teeth Discolor?
Before our team recommends any specific teeth whitening treatment, we will take the time to determine the underlying cause of your dental discoloration, including:
- Consumption of staining foods and drinks.
- Years of wear that thins tooth enamel revealing the yellow-colored dentin tooth layer.
- Smoking and tobacco use darken the color of tooth enamel.
- Fluorosis due to overconsumption of fluoride as a child causes brighter white areas on the tooth.
- Tetracycline medications taken during dental development can lead to darker staining on teeth.
How Does Glo Teeth Whitening Work?
Dr. Newman offers two ways to receive Glo teeth whitening: in-office or at-home. Should you opt for professional treatment performed in-house, your cosmetic dentist in New York will begin by using a shade guide to determine the desired results. Once your personalized treatment plan is created, he will use a specialized mouthpiece that combines warming heat and a safe LED light that works to accelerate the hydrogen peroxide whitening gel. Penetrating the enamel of each tooth, the light and gel combination eliminates stains, providing long-lasting results in under an hour. This makes it possible to achieve your desired smile in less time and without the necessary process of taking impressions for customized trays.
If you’d rather whiten your smile at home, on your own time, we can provide you with a take-home Glo teeth whitening kit that includes a special mouthpiece and several Glo vials for touch-ups when necessary. Following Dr. Newman’s instructions, you can expect to see dramatic results in about two weeks.
How Does KöR Teeth Whitening Work?
Widely recognized as one of the world’s most effective teeth whitening systems, KöR is a reliable, safe, smile-transforming teeth whitening system that can make your smile goals a reality in record time. Whether you prefer to lighten your smile from the comfort of your own home or would like to come into our office, we’ll use the dual-activated, try-barrel hydremide peroxide formula to erase stubborn stains and discoloration – no lasers for special lights necessary! Each treatment plan will be created and monitored by our exceptional cosmetic dentist in new York, Dr. Newman, to ensure you get the smile you’ve always wanted without compromising your oral health.
Why Our Teeth Whitening Treatments Are Better Than Store-Bought Options
Professional teeth whitening makes patients’ smiles up to 12 shades brighter in just one visit to our office. In addition to saving time, you will also receive predictable results under the supervision of our skilled cosmetic dentist in New York. This means you’ll achieve the desired results in complete comfort with reduced risk for dental sensitivity that can occur following teeth whitening treatments.
How Long Will My Teeth Whitening Results Last?
Your in-office teeth whitening results can last months or years with proper care. This should include twice-a-day brushing, daily flossing, and biannual appointments with our team. You will also want to limit or forego consumption of staining foods and drinks like coffee, berries, and red wine. If you use tobacco or smoke, your teeth will also discolor more quickly, so kicking this habit can help extend your results. We can also offer you professional take-home whitening kits. That way, you can touch up the results a few times each year.
Understanding the Cost of Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening can produce incredible results that just about anyone would be happy with. But, as with any dental procedure, you may be worried about whether it can be affordable.
Thankfully, everyone here at Gramercy Dental Studio wants you to be able to smile your brightest, and if you’re a new client, you may even be able to get your teeth whitened for free! Here’s what you should know about what you can expect teeth whitening to cost.
Factors That Affect the Cost of Teeth Whitening
Typically, teeth whitening is offered at a certain price. That said, the number and intensity of procedures that you need will likely depend on the severity of the discoloration that you’re dealing with, which will affect the final cost.
Discoloration can also happen for a variety of different reasons, either having to do with changing colors within the tooth or stains on the surface of it. Intrinsic discoloration due to age or medication is trickier to deal with than extrinsic stains caused by coffee or red wine, and will likely cost more to address.
Finally, the price of treatment will vary depending on whether you’re getting in-office or take-home whitening, which comes down to personal preference.
Types of Teeth Whitening: What Do They Cost?
There are multiple kinds of teeth whitening, both professional and over-the-counter. We’ll be able to give you an exact quote for your care at a consultation, but until then, you should know that the cost of teeth whitening treatments tends to break down like this:
In-office teeth whitening is usually the most expensive. Costs range anywhere from $700 to $1500.
Fast Teeth Whitening vs. Inexpensive Teeth Whitening
If you’re just looking at cost and convenience, going for over-the-counter teeth whitening may sound tempting. However, there’s a reason that these whitening treatments are so cheap—they don’t work all that well. The whitening solutions you get at the pharmacy aren’t very strong, so it’s common for people to see virtually no results from store-bought whitening kits.
On the other hand, there’s a reason that professional whitening costs what it does. Take-home trays you get from us will be custom-fit to your teeth, meaning that you can get a consistent sheen across your whole smile. We’ll also tune the strength of your whitening solution to you, which ensures that you’ll get results that you’ll be happy with.
Options For Making Teeth Whitening Affordable
If you’re trying to brighten your smile on a budget, we’re happy to do whatever we can to make the procedure as affordable as possible for you. Unfortunately, insurance won’t typically cover cosmetic treatments, so we’ll connect you with other options to make procedures cost-effective.
You may be interested in our membership plans. Our Adult Complete plan gives you 15% off any procedure you get with us, which can make a massive difference when getting higher-end cosmetic treatment.
If you’ve never been here before, then you’re in luck—you can get your teeth whitened for free! New patients who come to us for a full exam and cleaning can get a take-home whitening treatment for no extra charge. So, if you haven’t been to the dentist for a while, now’s a great time to make your smile look the best that it can. Call us for a consultation today, and we’ll make your teeth shine!
Teeth Whitening FAQs
At Gramercy Dental Studio, we want all of our patients to love the way their smile looks. And since nearly everyone develops stains and discoloration at some point, we often recommend teeth whitening as a great place to start. Below, you’ll find answers to several FAQs about teeth whitening in New York. But don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions or want to schedule a consultation. We’ve helped hundreds of patients achieve whiter, more beautiful teeth, and we’d love to help you too!
Am I a Good Candidate For Teeth Whitening?
Whitening is a great option for many people. However, since we want you to have a smile that’s both healthy and beautiful, Dr. Newman will make sure there aren’t any issues such as cavities or gum disease that need to be addressed first.
In addition, we may recommend alternative treatments or simply postponing whitening for the following patients:
- Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Those under age 18
- Anyone with severe stains from fluorosis or tetracycline use in childhood
- For people with extensive enamel wear or who have enamel defects such as pitting
Does Teeth Whitening Cause Sensitivity?
Teeth are covered in hundreds of tiny pores that temporarily “open” during the whitening process. Due to genetics, some people are more susceptible to this than others, which explains why certain people get temporary sensitivity while others don’t.
That said, just one of the advantages of professional whitening is that it contains ingredients like fluoride that “insulate” the pores in the teeth and strengthen the enamel. This blocks temperature and pressure from reaching the nerves of the teeth and greatly reduces sensitivity.
You can also use sensitive toothpaste at home before and during your whitening treatment. The effects are cumulative, so you’ll get the most benefit by using it for 2-3 weeks before you whiten. In addition, people who are especially prone to sensitivity often do great with take-home whitening. This allows them to whiten at their own pace, so instead of wearing the trays every day, they can simply be worn every second or third day. While this approach takes a bit longer, it still provides great results and minimizes or eliminates sensitivity.
Will Teeth Whitening Change the Color of My Veneers or Crowns?
No. Unfortunately, the only way to change the color of existing dental work is to replace it. In fact, many people prefer to whiten before they get new veneers or crowns so that the color can be matched to whiter, brighter teeth from the beginning.
